Cali Grace Steingraber was born a little too early. She started life with a bang and gave her parents quite a wild ride! Her fighting spirit and tough-as-nails personality were clear from the very beginning and this is her story.Cali started life weighing a mere 1 pound, 13 ounces. She was 14 weeks premature, and only a few days into her life, she nearly lost it. Cali became critically ill with a blood infection (sepsis) and with it, lost oxygen for a short amount of time. This event likely resulted in a small amount of brain damage, leading doctors to diagnose her with cerebral palsy when she was 9 months old. The first year of Cali’s life was truly one adventure after another. Between the many highs (Cali’s first brilliant smiles, to first giggles) there were many lows, yet Cali proved again and again that she was NEVER giving up on making it. She fought to overcome lung infections; various muscular issues with her eyesight, entire trunk and limbs, and most seriously, she fought to overcome severe acid reflux and an oral aversion to all food/drink.
